Spirit & Speed

Spirit & Speed is an award winning club magazine featuring a wealth of articles on all things Rolls-Royce and Bentley, enjoyed by RREC members worldwide.

The publication also includes news from local sections, model registers, event reports as well as exclusive interviews with prominent figures associated with the marques. Each edition is complemented with advertising from various Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists.

I had the opportunity to be part of an elevated pitch for a Brand and Art Direction refresh for the magazine’s aesthetic, editorial design and overall structure.

CHALLENGE
The challenge was to find a new editing design approach achieving a fresher, new look and feel for the magazine, without loosing the strong bond between content and readership. Spirit&Speed is a club magazine first with a dedicated readership worldwide, so it includes listings, registers, events, commentary and personal stories as much as highly curated editorial content about Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars.

CONCEPT
Working closely with the editorial team pitching for the publication, I developed a fresh approach to the cover design referencing the magazine’s beloved, traditional serif font masthead to create familiarity with a lighter hierarchy.
I added a more defined layout and grid system throughout lead articles, giving the club-led publication a more modern look, allowing editorial photography more breathing room. Previously the spreads often felt cluttered and lacked structure and hierarchy.
